Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake

The Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake can be found in Florida, the southern parts of Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. It is a more common rattlesnake in the areas in which they inhabit. This snake belongs to the Viperidae family which is a pitviper species of venomous snakes.

The dusky pigmy rattlesnake is a small snake that has an average size of 12 - 24 inches with the record length being 31 inches long. They are a heavy bodied snake with a triangular head that may range in color from light to dark gray, with dark charcoal like blotches and a reddish brown to orange line down the back. It has keeled (rough-dull) scales and elongated scales on its tail. The tail is slender with very small rattlers. These small rattlers may be difficult to hear or see because of their size.
