Eastern gray squirrels are common throughout Herndon’s wooded neighborhoods, parks, and residential communities. They are active year-round and frequently seek elevated shelter in attic spaces, soffits, and roofline cavities.

Squirrels may access structures using overhanging tree limbs, fence lines, and utility lines. Entry points often occur near fascia boards, dormer edges, ridge vents, and gable vent openings.

Activity tends to increase in late winter and early spring as nesting behavior begins, and again in late summer during secondary breeding periods.
