The other day I was taken a leisure stroll through my yard, I kept noticing large holes was being dug in my well manicured lawn. I had no idea what could possibly be digging holes in my yard. The holes in my yard was huge, some of the holes were big enough to fit a softball inside other holes were more golfball size holes that was dug sporadically through my yard. I am enclosing several pictures of the damage that was done to my lawn by this creature:
as you can see from the photo on the left hand side of our page the holes that the armadillo dug beside the sidewalk is not terribly big but they are sporadic in nature and more than enough to visually distract from the beauty of my yard. There were more holes in the back of the house that were somewhat larger in size.
It appeared to me that the armadillo oh was searching for something in my yard and with the sporadic digging a kid not determine exactly what the armadillo was looking for. After doing countless hours of Internet research I learned that the armadillo was digging in my yard in order to capture its main food source which happens to be Grubbs and other insects which live below the surface of the earth. Now that I knew what was digging in my yard(it was an armadillo) and I knew why he was digging in my yard(food) it was now up to me to figure out how to deal with the lawn damage in the armadillo removal in a timely and efficient manner. I considered several solutions to the armadillo problem in which I was facing and I decided to try and trap the armadillo myself.
After doing much research on armadillo trapping and adding up all the cost associated with buying all the necessary material and traps in order to trap an armadillo successfully I decided to hire a professional armadillo Trapper. I found the professional armadillo trapper on a website located here
the professional armadillo trapper was called and quickly came out the next day in order to help me trap my armadillo. The equipment the professional armadillo trapper had on their truck was amazing. All the technology involved in designing special traps in order to catch such specific species is wonderful and this armadillo trapper had a armadillo specific trap that was designed to go directly over the armadillo hole in which the armadillo was residing in. As I have learned there are more than one way to capture an armadillo, however the professional armadillo trapper indicated he thought he armadillo was in the hole that was located just inside the wood line beside my house. So the armadillo trapper set the special trap that is made specifically for armadillos over the hole. I have provided a picture of the trap that the armadillo trapper used in the set up of the job that our home the pitcher that I have provided shows the special armadillo trap placed over the armadillo hole. The theory of the trap is that if a armadillo is sleeping in a hole (armadillos are nocturnal) then the trap is placed over top of the hole. Once it gets dark, the armadillo wakes up incomes out of the hole to roam around and dig holes in my yard like it usually does. The trap was set on Friday of last week. I was beginning to get discouraged because we have had no results in our armadillo trapping venture. I had constant contact with the professional armadillo trapper and he assured me that the armadillo was in fact in the hole and that sooner or later the armadillo would have to come out of the hole in order to feed and to get water. I was beginning to think the armadillo trapper was crazy, I thought that there was no way that any animal could be in a hole for two days and not come out to stretch his legs or to eat. I was beginning to question the special armadillo trap and the functionality of the whole process.(I thought there could have been another way the armadillo escaped the hole) I came outside every morning hoping to see a armadillo trapped in the cage that the trapper had left. I came outside on Sunday morning expecting not to see anything other than what I had seen for the last several days, Empty traps and a dug up yard. So I went to the backyard and turn my sprinkler system on like I normally do and made my way over to the trap that was on the wood line. And to my amazement, there sat my prized armadillo in the special armadillo trap. I immediately called the professional armadillo trapper to come and fetch his prize. I must say that through this whole process I questioned the ability of the armadillo trapper and the methods that they were using. Lesson learned in this whole process is let the professional people do what they do, most of the time they do what they do for a reason and unless we ask a specific question we never know exactly why they do what they did. The professional armadillo trapper has treated my yard with a chemical meant to treat for the Grubbs and other insects in which the armadillos were eating. I have since filled in all the holes in which the armadillos were burrowing and have started the process of fixing my yard back to a wonderful representation of the community that I live in. I live near St. Augustine Florida and have found through my Internet research that other people have this very same problem of armadillos digging in their yard. You can find a professional armadillo trapper at the link mentioned above and rest assured they do know what they’re doing. Below I am providing you with proof:
