Coronavirus: What it is and How its spread

The Coronavirus is a large family of viruses that cause things from the common cold to more serious things like SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). The Coronavirus usually causes Upper Respiratory Tract illnesses. Some symptoms include, but are not limited to, Running Nose, headache, cough, sore throat, fever and a general feeling of just being sick. The two most common types of this virus are MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. Lab testing will identify which type of the virus you have. Many times it is mistaken for the common flu. If you are having any of these symptoms, we suggest that you go see you local dr to have some tests done, to make sure you are not infected with this virus.

Coronavirus:The 2019-2020 Wuhan Strain

In December 2019 near the city of Wuhan China A large group of people developed pneumonia like symptoms The majority of the people that were infected worked at the Huanan seafood market which also sold approximately 119 different varieties of live animals, some of the live animals which were sold at the Huanan seafood market were: bats, rats, wolf puppies, chickens, crocodiles, porcupines, venomous snakes, camels, salamanders, marmots, porcupines and peacocks. All these animals were bought live and were purchased for human consumption.

As of January 1st, 2020 the seafood market has been closed due to the outbreak of the virus in which the market is considered the epicenter of.

After careful examination of this new virus labeled 2019-ncov scientists have found that it is 70% identical to SARS.
The SARS outbreak epicenter was located in southern China which resulted in 8100 cases resulting in 17 deaths in 17 countries with the majority of them being in China.

How does this Virus spread?

Scientists are still trying to figure out how this virus is spread it's essentially not clear how the viruses is transmitted from animals to humans or if it can go from person to person. Coronavirus is typically spread through the air when a person coughs or sneezes.
It is still undetermined if the virus can be spread from consumption of the animals that were sold at the Huanan's Market.

Research is underway and a conclusion should be determined by the end of January.

What does this mean for Americans?

Right now the threat of the coronavirus in the United States is particularly low, there has only been one isolated case in which the patient had recently visited China. That particular patient is currently in isolation in a hospital located Washington State..

Passengers that are coming from the city of Wuhan in China into the United States that are either ones direct or indirect flights will only be allowed to land in specific US airports, these airports include: John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, San Francisco International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport There these passengers are screened for the virus through body temperature thermometers and other types of Health screenings to control the spread of the Wuhan Coronavirus.

1/30/2020 Update: The WHO has declared that the death toll has rose to 170 people with 7700 confirmed cases and countries include the US, Australia, Japan, and India.
The United states have 5 confirmed cases and the locations are as follows: California-2, Illinois-1, Arizona-1 and Washington State-1.
