They have two breeding seasons per year in MD. Most breeding occurs in December through February and May through June of each year. The squirrel easily adapts to whatever situation confronts him. The secret to his survival is how quickly he learns the ropes around your MD neighborhood. If there is no food available the squirrel will travel for miles to find it then set up his home nearby. His nest, called a "drey," is usually built high up in the trees but if no tree is available the squirrel will build it in the next best thing an attic in your Maryland home.
The squirrel is one of Maryland's most common wildlife pests. If you hear “noises” in your attic odds are you have a uninvited guest named “squirrel.” The most common noise complaints associated with squirrels in the attic is lots of "scratching," this could be a sign that a female squirrel is preparing to have her young.
This situation should be addresses immediately before the young are old enough to cause damage to your homes wiring.
It is estimated that more than 40,000 incidents of house fires annually are caused by faulty electrical wiring. As such, it is the leading cause of fire-related casualties, claiming about 500 lives with property losses estimated at over $500 million annually. Out of these 40,000 fires it’s believed that 40% are caused by rodents chewing on wiring.
Raccoon Control and Management
In the springtime in Maryland hundreds of female raccoons find their way into attics, crawl spaces and basements as well as chimneys in search of a safe place to have their young. The usual time for liter births in MD is late March into early April. Raccoons are very strong and can break louvers from gable vents, tear shingles off of a roof, and dismantle faulty chimney caps or tear of chimney screens. Once inside, raccoons will create a nesting area and designate a spot to be their toilet. This can cause a terrible odor and as it soaks into the insulation, sheetrock or ceiling tiles can cause damage or stains.
These animals are destructive by nature and will tear apart insulation and wiring as well as rip shingles from the roof for not apparent reason. Raccoons are very dangerous animals to have living in your Maryland attic, chimney, or any other place for a number of reasons.

Animal Exclusion Services
Whatever the animal or pest may be the only way to getting rid of the problem is to trap the nuisance and remove them from the location. Whether it's squirrels, raccoons, gophers, groundhogs, skunks, snakes, rats, mice or bats, simply blocking the entrance will not solve the problem. You’re little or big nuisance animal will either remove the blockade or create a new entry. Especially if they have their young still in your Maryland home.
Most MD operators use the most humane methods to trap nuisance animals, or critters and remove them from the property. They then secure the entry spot or holes to insure that the pest or pests do not return and do not gain reentry so that you can sleep worry free. The fact is that except in those cases where you simply left a window or door open and animals got into your home, every structural animal trapping job is going to require some type of animal damage repair or exclusion to prevent animals from gaining or regaining entry into your home. In the animal control profession, we have a name for repairs or modifications made specifically to keep wild animals out of your home or property. We call this work Wildlife Exclusion, and getting it done right the first time can make all the difference in preventing continuing entry and damage by bats, birds, squirrels, raccoons, rodents, and other nuisance animals.
Most Maryland Wildlife Removal Operators provide a wide range of animal damage repair and animal exclusion or "animal-proofing" services throughout all of Maryland including Bowie, Laurel, Prince Georges County, Silver Springs, Frederick, Potomac, Waldorf, White Plains, Budds Creek and all areas in between. No matter what kind of critter has moved into your attic, roof, soffits, crawl space, basement, barn, or shed, One of Our Maryland Operators can catch it.
Most Maryland operators can also help you prevent animal damage in advance by inspecting your home prior to an intrusion from a nuisance animal or critter. It's a lot easier and less expensive to keep bats, rats, raccoons, squirrels, and other nuisance animals out of your home in the first place than it is to clean up the mess and fix the damage once they've already gotten in.
